difference between Pulp and Paper

The concept of pulp and paper is same as the question, ‘who comes first, hen or egg?’ In the same way “who comes first, pulp or paper?”

Pulp is a soft, moist material made out of wood chips and recycled paper. Pulp can be made out of recycled paper but it can also be made out of wood chips, cloth etc. Therefore, pulp comes first. Pulp is obtained by grinding the wood chips, cardboard, and mixing water for getting thick pulp.

Pulper is the huge machine which mixes the material with water. Pulper helps to get fiber from the raw material by mixing them to the pulp.

The Difference

Pulp is a primary material that is used to make paper. Paper is a sheet used for writing or printing.

Paper is usually made by cellulose fibers from wood chips which are dry or waterproof container, while pulp is a soft, moist and shapeless matter. Recycled pulp is also called as deinked pulp. The pulp is been processed by chemicals that removes the inks and unwanted contaminants. The process is called deinking and it is used as a raw material in papermaking.

Paper is a white sheet which is made out of pulp by grinding raw material and mixing water and chemicals and then they are dried into thin sheets. Paper is used for writing and printing purpose.

Pulp and Paper Industry

Pulp and Paper industry manufactures paper machines and papers. These companies use wood and other recycled paper or cloth to produce paper.

Pulp and paper industry mostly look to yield paper by use of recycled paper and cloth. The recycled paper gives the same and efficient results of the paper.

The industries were criticised by the environmental groups for deforestation of old grown forest. These industries expands in making new advanced paper machines to get the less use of wood and started paper making machines which can recycle the paper and cloth and any waste raw material to produce good quality of paper as that of the wood fiber pulp.

The advanced technology in paper industry has making huge impact on environment.

Deforestation has stopped also the use of waste paper from offices, schools are making in use. Paper industry also has their land where they plant tress for the future use of wood chips.

The studies have found the paper industry plants on average 1.7 million trees daily. As the trees are cut down, more trees are planted to take place. Most of the forests which are destroyed due to natural cause or insects are cut down for the use of making pulp.

As a tree is cut down, five more trees are planted on the place of one. Certain kinds of trees are cut down to make paper. Trees like pine have soft wood which has longer fiber and give paper more strength. Clay and soda was added in the pulp to make the paper more glossy and colourful. These paper were used in magazines or packaging.
